Join us on Thursday, April 11 when you will be guided on a private tour of The Great Frame Up store in Bluffton. Thanks to Bill Tremetiere who arranged the tour; he is a former employee, now retired. This store location has been recognized as the #1 franchise for the past three consecutive years and their molding display is the largest in the area and is a work of art in itself. One of their specialties is art reproduction where original art pieces are printed and color matched to guarantee accurate reproduction. Many VAC artists have expressed interest in learning more about this technique and seeing where framing is performed. The tour is one hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. There is no fee and Danish and coffee will be served. Space is limited. Contact Marie Doyon (mariemd@me.com) to reserve a spot and indicate if you would be willing to drive. Meet in the sales office parking lot at 8:50.
Over the coming weeks, VAC will be conducting a series of demonstrations for people who might want to ‘create’ but may need a little more information about what might be involved. To begin this series, we’ll be hearing from artist Biddie Fox who will demonstrate the ins and outs of watercolor painting. This demonstration will take place on Thursday, September 19 between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Community Center. This is a demo only with no class participation (and it’s free!) and there will be plenty of time for your questions to be answered. Registration is not required, but please reply to Marie Doyon (mariemd@me.com) if you plan to attend.
Beth Williams’ presentation is the second in a series of demonstrations for people who might want to ‘create’ but may need a little more information about what might be involved. Her demonstration on using pastels is scheduled for Thursday, November 7 from 11:00 a.m. till noon in the Arts & Crafts room. This is a demo only and it’s free but space is limited. Email Marie Doyon (mariemd@me.com) if you plan to attend. Here’s a bit of information about Beth… Beth achieved her Master Circle Status with the International Association of Pastel Societies in 2021, and she is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, and a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of South Carolina. Her work has been featured in Pastel Journal: The Winter Landscape 2021, The Pastel Journal’s “Pastel 100” competition 2018 and 2019, as well as in Charleston Living, One King's Lane, Charleston Garden and Gun Jubilee, Charleston Style and Design Magazine, Charleston Art Mag, and in the summer 2020 issue of Parks and Travel Magazine. She has exhibited in the annual juried Piccolo Spoleto Art Exhibit in Charleston, SC, 2014-2018.
Mary Segars’ presentation is the third in a series of demonstrations for people who want to ‘create’ but may need a little more information about what might be involved. Her demonstration on using oils is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10 from 11:00 a.m. till noon in the Arts & Crafts room. This is a demo only and it’s free but space is limited. Email Marie Doyon (mariemd@me.com) if you plan to attend. Mary is a Lowcountry artist whose subjects are widely varied and where bold color and lights and shadows are a common element of her paintings. Mary most often works with a limited palette of primary colors and she paints quickly, wet-in-wet, leaving visual brushstrokes on the surface. Come and see Mary demonstrate her technique of painting with oils.
